Slipways for River Rescue Emergency Services

Notice of Question – Cllr. Trevor Golden

Can Trim Municipal District/Meath County Council liaise with the stakeholders both seeking and involved in the provision of a slipway for emergency services to access the river Boyne at Castle Street, Trim?

Response:
The issue of providing slipways at various locations on the River Boyne for the launch and recovery of rescue boats is the subject of a number of Notice of Motions/Questions at Full Council and Municipal District level. A report on this matter is currently being prepared and will be presented to the Environment SPC Meeting to be held on the 17th December, 2015.
The response was noted.
An update from the SPC meeting was provided, including the need to maintain/upgrade the existing slipways and the plans to provide two additional slipways, one in Navan and one in Trim, the environmental impact assessment needed as the works would take place in a Special Area of Conservation and the number of agencies that were to be consulted. It was agreed that the report from the meeting would be circulated.

Baconstown Heritage Group launch enfieldgraveyards.com

Today I attended the launch of a wonderful project by the Baconstown Heritage Group – enfieldgraveyards.com. Below is a little information about the project.

A small community organisation – Baconstown Heritage Group – has for over ten years in a quiet and steadfast manner undertaken the project of transcribing, mapping and photographing headstones in the graveyards of the Enfield Credit Union Common Bond area.

It comprises of the parishes of Balyna, part of Carbury and of Newtown in Co. Kildare and the parishes of Enfield/Rathmolyon; Longwood/Killyon; Coole/Summerhill and Clonard in Co. Meath.

Twice a week and for almost every week of the past decade, this dedicated group has cleared undergrowth, battled erosion and used their proficiency in latin, old Irish and knowledge of symbols and signs, to transcribe and decipher the headstones in all these 28 graveyards.

This information was then collated and inputted into a database, which is now freely available and searchable on the website www.enfieldgraveyards.com. Anyone searching for their roots will be able to search the database by family name or graveyard and not only find the details of births and deaths, but a photograph and the exact location of the headstone.

The project was sponsored by Enfield Credit Union. Further sponsorship was received from the Heritage Council of Ireland. Training and guidance was provided by the Heritage Officers in Meath and Kildare.

Eirgrid North-South Interconnector Pylons

The Meath Independent Technical Group lodged a submission with An Bord Pleanala regarding the North-South 400KV Interconnector (Ref:02VA0017)

We the Independent Technical Group of Meath County Council wish to lodge an objection to the application for the North-South 400KV Interconnector (Ref:02VA0017).

Our objection is not to the increase in capacity but to the visual, economic and possible health impact on the county of Meath by the deployment of the lines over-ground.

We request that the application to place the lines over-ground be refused in favour of a new application for the undergrounding of lines as is best practice in progressive countries.
