Notice Of Question – Planning Local Needs Statistics for Meath County Council

Meath County Council Ordinary Meeting – 11th June 2018, Council Chamber, Railway Street, Navan.

8 Notice of Question

8.1 Submitted by Councillor Trevor Golden

“For the years 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017 what number of applicants did not meet local
needs requirements, advised by either an application decision or pre-planning meeting,
but were living in the same Municipal District as their proposed development?”

Response

Section 10.4 of the Meath County Development Plan 2013-2019 sets out the criteria by
which planning applications are assessed for local needs. For the period 01/01/2014 to
31/12/2017, 5690 applications were received with 364 of these applications refused for
a variety of reasons. The national planning system, iPlan, used to register and record
planning applications and decisions, does not have the functionality to record the
reason for refusals. In relation to pre-planning meetings, no separate statistics are kept
regarding local needs criteria.
