About me
I am an Independent Candidate for the Trim Municipal District of Meath County Council. I was first elected to Meath County Council in 2014. I was elected Leas-Chathaoirleach of Meath County Council for 2014/15. I am currently serving as the Cathaoirleach of the Trim Municipal District.

I serve on the Louth-Meath Education & Training Board (LMETB), the East Border Region Economic Development Forum and Meath’s Economic Strategic Planning Committee (SPC). I am Chairperson of the Meath Joint Policing Committee.

I am a board member of Coláiste Clavin (Formerly St. Fintina’s) Longwood, Boyne Community School, Trim and Athboy Community School.

I am seeking your support to continue to build on my work to date. The overwhelming majority of the projects and goals I speak of are local and achievable. My promise is to continue to work to deliver a standard of service and infrastructure. A standard that is the same no matter where you live in Meath.

I want to provide amenities to all towns and villages. Work for further improvements to road safety and maintenance. To further develop and promote the economic strategy. To support existing businesses and attract more investment into the county.

I see the need to empower communities. I will work to see that the supports needed to help solve issues such as rural Broadband are made available.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Road Safety in Towns & Villages
While we have made progress in the district, we require additional safety measures. I will work to ensure all our towns and villages have the appropriate safety measures. These measures include pedestrian crossings, traffic calming and traffic management plans. Specific safety measures for schools to ensure a comprehensive road safety policy. Improved cycle lanes and signposted safe cycle routes.

Commuting
We must acknowledge public transport is not a practical alternative for many commuters. As Government works to address this, local Government has a role. There is a need for a practical approach to the problems facing commuters today. We need to improve links to the primary routes such as the M3. Traffic management needs to improve traffic flows. I will work to introduce measures such as High Occupancy Lanes (HOV) for carpooling in Meath.

I continue to work and support the rail link to Navan despite Department policy. I support Independent colleagues working to deliver rail to Dunshaughlin. It is a more achievable project in the near term.

Environment
Work to encourage and incentivise recycling through free open days and loyalty schemes. Recycling Centres to accept more forms of waste. Provide recycling facilities outside of the main population centres. Pilot on-street recycling with segregated bins. I will continue to work and support energy upgrades such as public street lighting to LED.

Amenities & Services
Progress has been made over the last 5 years working with community groups. However, we still have areas requiring facilities. My priority is to deliver these facilities to the remaining areas in the coming term. I also want to work to create amenities that complement our natural environment. Amenities such as parks, walks, Blueways and Greenways. It is vital that we provide amenities for all ages. Many problems such as anti-social behaviour are compounded due to a lack of amenities. On services I will work to see more street furniture, bins and better public lighting.

Local Employment Opportunities
Work to deliver employment opportunities in Meath. The success of our recent economic policy has resulted in significant investment. Commuting to work inside the county is a real possibility given recent investments. The strategy has resulted in marketing Meath as Europe’s Business Ready Region. I strongly believe this is the correct strategy and want to build on it. Innovative projects like the Boyne Valley Food Hub are successful and sustainable.

Support Local Economy
My goal is to make it easier to shop local. Local businesses face many challenges. Challenges include retail centres in neighbouring counties and online merchants. A retail strategy for Meath must address these challenges. We need a digital strategy to assist businesses through the Local Enterprise Office. Develop town centre strategies to offer a better experience to shoppers. There should be no barriers to shopping local. Shopping local must be the easiest and most sustainable option.
